TO A FRIEND
One word is all I ask for
Of the words we’ve learned to miss.
To long we have been silent
Despite our memories.
The faith that we once cherished
Remains a rope that binds.
I still believe I see you
The way I used to once.
I feel at home with you
When we’re together,
So let us drink a toast like friends
And sing the songs we know
will raise all glasses.
Had we been friends
A thousand years or over,
It would have been too few,
And in the friendship’s
What we still believe in,
Should not this happiness
Be there for all?
There are moments still between us
That sometimes come to light.
In them our once true faithfulness
Confronts the eyes of spite.
Whatever satisfaction
Should come from the success
That future luck might grant us,
These moments will not cease.
I feel at home with you
When we’re together.
So let us drink a toast like friends,
And sing the songs we know
will raise our glasses.
Had we been friends
A thousand years or over,
It would have been too few,
And in the friendship’s
What we still believe in,
Should not this happiness
Be there for all?
One word is all I ask for.
